Workshop with Jayne Orton
Sunday Sept 15th 2013 - The centre is now into its third year and to have Jayne, as a guest teacher, is a real privilege as she is one of the few teachers in the UK to hold an Iyengar advanced certificate presented to her by B.K.S. Iyengar himself.
Jayne is the Director of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Birmingham and is the Midlands' most experienced and longstanding Iyengar teacher and since 2005 has been Yoga consultant to Birmingham City Football Club. She also runs workshops throughout the UK, Europe and North America.
At the workshop Jayne taught a variety of poses to the attendees of wide ranging ability, from those relatively new to Iyengar Yoga through to existing teachers.
The photographs are only intended to give a flavour of the workshop and illustrate some of the asanas that Jayne taught.
Adho Mukha Svanasana
(above) - stretches the shoulders, legs, spine and whole body; builds strength throughout the body, particularly the arms, legs, and feet; relieves fatigue and rejuvenates the body; improves the immune system, digestion and blood flow to the sinuses, and calms the mind and lifts the spirits.

Eka Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana (below left) - increases the strength and flexibility of the shoulders. The hamstrings, calf muscles and the achilles tendon are stretched. The hamstring muscles in the raised leg, gluteus muscles and some lower back muscles are toned.
Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (right) which strengthens the legs and ankles, stretches the backs of the legs and improves sense of balance. Here Jayne demonstrates the key points and emphasised the importance of correct alignment.
